Frequently asked questions:
Where are you located?
I am based and licensed in Wisconsin. I am also licensed in Iowa. I have an “Authorization to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology” from the PSYPACT Commission, which means I am able to see individuals located in 42 different states over telehealth. Please click here to check if you are located in one of these states.
Can I see you in person?
I am currently only seeing individuals via telehealth. Current research indicates that telehealth is as good, or better, than in-person therapy for most diagnoses. Certain diagnoses, presentations, and levels of acuity are best treated in person. For this reason, we will use part of the 15 minute consultation to determine if telehealth is the best form of therapy to meet your needs.
What is your availability?
I am open on weekdays and offer sessions in the mornings and afternoons, ranging from 10am-5pm CST. Please reach out to me if there is specific availability you are needing and I can let you know if I can accommodate that.
What are your fees?
Please click here to be taken to my fees page, which includes information about different session lengths, insurance vs paying out of pocket, and the Good Faith Estimate.
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is a bit different for everyone. The first session is more of an information-gathering session, where I will ask you questions about your background, what’s bringing you in, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. The remaining sessions are more based on what your goals are and what you want to be focusing on. It sometimes takes a few sessions to get comfortable in therapy. I encourage you to plan on starting with 8-12 sessions. Therapy is very collaborative, so be prepared to have topics you want to work on in session. Some sessions may be more hands-on, where I teach you specific skills and psychological concepts. Other sessions may be more focused on processing the past, present, and future.
What happens in the 15-minute consultation?
The free 15-minute consultation serves 5 main purposes. 1) It let me get to know you and learn more about your reasons for therapy so I can be sure I’m someone who can help you. 2) It lets you learn more about me and my approach to therapy, so you can decide if I’m someone you want to support you on your journey. Not every therapist is perfect for every individual, so the 15-minute consultation is an important time for us to get to know each other. 3) It lets us confirm whether or not telehealth is appropriate for you and your presenting concerns. As mentioned above, telehealth is great for a variety of concerns. There are some exceptions to this, such as when there is active suicidal or homicidal thoughts, active psychosis, or severe eating concerns. Research shows that the support of in-person therapy is better for these concerns, so part of the 15-minute consultation is checking in about these. 4) We’ll go over some basic admin things, such as where you’re located and whether you plan to use insurance or go private pay. 5) We end with seeing if either of us has any lingering questions and go ahead and get scheduled if we’re both ready to start. You don’t have to commit during the consultation, we can always revisit scheduling at a later date.
It sounds like a lot to pack into 15 minutes, but it is absolutely doable!
What is the cancellation policy?
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours advanced notice will be charged the full session fee.
What is the discharge policy?
Reasons include the natural end of therapy, individuals choosing to discontinue, being referred to another provider/level of care, no communication for more than 60 days, 3 late cancels/no-shows in a row, and noncompliance with treatment.
